Emphasis is placed on the importance of clear and consistent cataloguing practices to support knowledge acquisition and resource discovery.

This module covers:

  • The purpose and significance of cataloguing and classification in library services
  • Core terminology including call numbers, metadata, subject headings, and major library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification).
  • Practical exercises to interpret labels, call numbers, and catalogue records

The focus is practical and confidence-building. By the end of the session, participants will understand cataloguing workflows, interpret basic classification systems, and contribute to simple cataloguing tasks within their libraries.
